Ch01_08_Sermon_Those who became disciples through the testimony of John the Baptist (John 1:37-42)

Before we enter the text, let us look back at the preceding word. John the Baptist heard the voice of the Holy Spirit saying, “When you baptize, if you see the Spirit come upon someone, know that He is the Messiah who is to come.” And when he baptized, he saw the Spirit come upon the head of Jesus, and he knew that this One is none other than the Messiah. John the Baptist baptized Jesus and passed the sins of mankind on to Him, and the next day, seeing Jesus coming toward him, he testified, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). It was the testimony that that One is none other than the Savior and the Messiah of Israel, the Son of God, and the Messiah who took charge of our sins with the baptism He received from John and would go to the Cross and receive the judgment for our sins. And again the next day, while he was with his disciples, he saw Jesus walking and testified, “Behold the Lamb of God!” (John 1:36), testifying as many as two times.
