Today we have read John chapter 5. From John 5:1 on, the man who had been sick for thirty-eight years appears here as the main figure. Our Lord went to this sick man, and seeing him lying there and knowing that he had already been in that condition a long time, He said, “Do you want to be made well?” and the sick man answered, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” When Jesus said, “Rise, take up your bed and walk,” the man was immediately made well, took up his bed, and walked. The Scriptures record the event in which the man who had been sick for thirty-eight years was healed by the grace of Jesus Christ and took up his bed and walked. Our Lord had pity on this sick man, who had struggled and struggled with his sickness for as long as thirty-eight years and yet had not been healed and lay collapsed, and He came to him and saved him.
