In verse 39 it says, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.” Are you those who, thinking that you have eternal life in the word of the Scriptures, look at the Scriptures, and have been saved by believing in Jesus Christ, who is revealed in the Scriptures? The Bible says so. When I look back on whether I, too, did so, I was able to meet Jesus while reading the Bible, and at first I knew only the Cross of Jesus, but later I came to know the gospel of the truth of the baptism of Jesus and the Cross and was saved. If we think about the historical background in which He spoke this word in John 5:39, the Jews believe only the Old Testament. This word is a word that includes even the New Testament, but at this time it was a word spoken about the Old Testament.
