The reason Jesus said, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God,” is that everyone born of the flesh has the nature of a sinner. No matter how much religious knowledge and how many good deeds one may have, a sinner cannot remove the sin of his heart or become a child of God by his own strength. Therefore, one must believe in the gospel of the water and the Spirit that Jesus accomplished, receive the remission of sin, and be born again with new life.
